I had this idea for at least 2 years, thanks to my graduate school thesis. I was exploring the commodification of “blackness” or the Black Aesthetic through a fake fashion line inspired by racist ideas about black people.
I discovered my love of screenprinting back in collage, and I have been using fabric (specifically T-shirts) like a second canvas ever since. This design is a combination of Wanted Posters from westerns and Will Smith’s pose from the Bad Boys movie ad; originally a gift for a fellow talented artist.
I had a red t-shirt hanging around just waiting to be printed on, and I transformed it into a cool laced-up blouse to make it a little bit more special:
